About Sheringham

Sheringham is 4 miles west of Cromer. It is a busy seaside town with an award winning Blue Flag Beach and ideal for families. It has a theatre, museum, swimming pool, a golf course and a small pitch and put course. Market day is on Saturday and from April to November it is also on a Wednesday.

Sheringham is also the start of the North Norfolk Railway. “The Poppy Line” is a privately owned railway with steam trains that run for several miles to the charming historic market town of Holt

A trip on a steam train on the North Norfolk Railway is a must. The railway stations take you back to a bygone age and they much used by photographers, videographers and as film set.

For much of the year diesel trains run with the steam trains. However at peak times steam trains run all of the time. However during hot summers, steam trains can cause heath fires and as a precaution diesel trains are run as a replacement.

Sheringham high street has lots of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Eating fish and chips is a popular pastime whilst looking out to sea. In the centre of the town is a large clock dating back to 1862.

The walk along the Norfolk Coast Path up to Skelding Hill pictured above is a real treat. From the top of the hill by the Coastwatch Lookout, the views across the Golf Club towards Weybourne are superb.

On the other side of the town is Beeston Bump, formed a the end of the last ice age. This is a 15 minute climb with extensive views towards West Runton to the East and Weybourne to the West.

The long promenade spans many of the beaches that are adorned with colourful beach huts pictured below.

The beach huts overlook a sandy beach that is ideal for sunbathing. From here you can see the sun rise in the east and set in the west.

Cromer, a real gem on the Norfolk coast is the neighbouring town and there is often lots of competition between the two.

Also worth a visit is the market town of North Walsham. It is on the Bittern Line, a railway track that runs between Sheringham and Norwich. Two other nearby towns are beautiful Holt and the market town of Aylsham.
