Sheringham is 4 miles west of Cromer. It's name is Scandinavian in origin meaning The Ham of Scira's people. If you, your parents and grandparents were born in the town you qualify to be called a Sheringham Shannock. Sheringham is a busy seaside town with an award winning Blue Flag Beach and ideal for families. It has a theatre, museum, swimming pool, a golf course and a small pitch and put course. Market day is on Saturday and from April to November it is also on a Wednesday.
Sheringham is also the start of the North Norfolk Railway. “The Poppy Line” is a privately owned railway with steam trains that run for several miles to the charming historic market town of Holt.

The Morris dancing “Potties Festival” and carnival are popular annual events. The long promenade spans many of the beaches that are adorned with colourful beach huts pictured below.
The beach huts overlook a sandy beach that is ideal for sunbathing. From here you can see the sun rise in the east and set in the west. This is a photographic opportunity that I hope to fulfil soon.
