Norfolk and Norwich Vintage Portraits

During the past few years I have enjoyed taking vintage portraits in Norfolk and Norwich. I have seen this dress theme recurring on a regular basis. The most popular era is the 1950’s with brightly coloured dresses and flouncy petticoats. Vintage wedding dresses are also very popular and look great when used on a portrait photo shoot.

Getting the Vintage Look

As you can see from the above images with the right hairstyle and makeup the vintage look is very glamorous. It is a great look for hen parties. Even if you feel that your hair is not long enough for a vintage look I work in partnership with hairdressers, who can add hair extensions to give you that 1950’s look. Pale skin and pastel shades ruled for makeup in the 1950’s such as pale blue, pink, yellow and green. I also work in partnership with makeup artists, who can give you this look. A vintage dress ideally needs a vintage looking backdrop to make your portrait work. I have created a list of locations in picturesque Norfolk, including villages and venues such as Weybourne Train Station, that you can choose for your vintage portrait photo shoot.

Props and accessories can also enhance your vintage portrait such as steam trains, old bicycles, trams. buses, vintage cars, suitcases, parasols, necklaces, scarves, head bands, gloves, belts, glasses, handbags and shoes can all add to the effect that you trying to create. Whist the 1950’s was a colourful vibrant era it was a time of hardship and for much of the decade rationing was still in place. The decade gave rise to the “ready to wear” clothing produced en mass with improved construction, beautiful tailoring, striking colours and patterns, plus improved cloth quality. Imports started to return to the UK and there was a much greater choice of clothing with nipped waists, swing dresses, flouncy petticoats of assorted colours, pencil skirts and wiggle dresses.
