As a Happisburgh photographer my services include head shots, portraits, family photo shoots, model portfolios and Norfolk landscapes sold as wall art.
The village of Happisburgh is on the North East coast of the County of Norfolk. It is about 14 miles south east of the popular seaside town of Cromer. The seaside town of Great Yarmouth is approximately 22 miles to the south east.
Happisburgh has the only independently lighthouse in Great Britain. Built in 1790 and originally one of a pair, it is the oldest working light in East Anglia. Furthermore, with a range of 18 miles, the light flashes three times every 30 seconds. You can see the lighthouse from the car park and the bay with it’s distinctive with red and white stripes. You can also see inside the lighthouse and climb the tower on open days.

Happisburgh has a fantastic sandy and secluded beach. Consequently, it is popular with families as it has an excellent pay and display car park, toilet and a children’s play area. The proceeds from the car park pay for the facilities. The short walk to the beach is down a slope.

At low tide, on a lovely summer day, the walk to Walcott or Sea Palling is a real pleasure. You can walk for miles. Furthermore, as you can see from the photos on this page, you will have the beach almost to yourself.

Even with large boulders in front, the sandy cliffs along this coastline are prone to erosion especially in winter. The landscape is forever changing.

A World War 2 Pillbox with Happisburgh Lighthouse in the distance – Picture ID #1039638 – How to buy
There are several pillboxes in this area. When this photograph was taken in 2021 this pillbox was a few feet from the cliff edge. At the present rate of cliff erosion I expect it will be lost to the sea very soon. It will be interesting to see what happens to the lighthouse as the cliffs erode further. Hopefully it will be moved further inland and continue to be operational.
Cliff Erosion at Happisburgh – Picture ID#1037432 – How to buy
Happisburgh has gained the reputation as being one of the fastest eroding coastlines in Great Britain. Unfortunately with climate change and rising sea levels erosion will only get worse.
